New Delhi, Feb 27 (NationPress) The Vice President, C.P. Radhakrishnan, addressed the alarming rise of fake news and misinformation, asserting that it is imperative for journalists to champion the truth.
During his speech at the 57th Convocation of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) in New Delhi, the Vice-President urged recent graduates in mass communication to emerge as catalysts for positive transformation in society.
He emphasized that journalism and mass communication are pivotal in shaping the nation’s progress towards Viksit Bharat.
Highlighting the influence of the written word, he remarked that opinion leaders have the potential to guide the country by fostering accurate and positive perspectives based solely on truth. “Fearlessly pen the truth, and you will contribute to Viksit Bharat,” he encouraged the students.
He advised them to avoid being influenced by popularity or quick gains, instead prioritizing the integrity and accuracy of their work. He expressed admiration for the late journalist A.N. Sivaraman, the former Editor of Dinamani, noting that socially aware and informative journalism can cultivate and empower leaders.
The Vice-President asserted that as technology and platforms evolve, the foundational principles of journalism—accuracy, fairness, and accountability—must remain unwavering.
He urged the graduates to stay committed to the truth, stating, “Embrace truth in your heart, and no one can surpass you.”
He expressed his belief that they will make significant contributions toward creating a knowledgeable, resilient, and Viksit Bharat.
Students from various programs, including postgraduate diplomas in Journalism (English, Hindi, Radio and TV, Digital Media, Odia, Urdu, Marathi, and Malayalam), Advertising, and Public Relations across several campuses, who have successfully completed their exams in 2024-25, will be awarded diplomas, as stated in an official release.
At the convocation ceremony, in addition to the diplomas, 35 medals, with 23 accompanied by cash prizes, were presented to the top achievers from all six campuses.
The Vice-President also laid the foundation stone for a new academic block and hostel at IIMC, New Delhi.
He expressed optimism that these new facilities would enhance digital labs, AI-based learning, data journalism, and modern studios, empowering students to innovate rather than merely follow trends.
