Warning Issued by Intelligence Agencies Regarding Possible Attack on Suvendu Adhikari by Bangladesh-Linked Terror Group

Kolkata, Dec 25 (NationPress) The Central intelligence agencies have informed the West Bengal government about a potential terrorist attack on Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Assembly, orchestrated by members of a Bangladesh-based fundamentalist group who have crossed into Indian territory via the porous borders with the neighboring country.
According to sources, two consecutive alerts from the central agencies sent to the state secretariat explicitly indicate that the LoP has become a target for two Bangladesh-based extremist organizations, namely Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) and Hizb-ut-Tahrir (HUT).
The intelligence reports suggest that there is a likelihood of the LoP being attacked during any of the numerous public events he regularly attends, where he has consistently spoken out about the ongoing crisis in Bangladesh, particularly concerning the assaults on minorities and Hindu places of worship.
Prior concerns regarding this threat had already been identified, prompting the Union government to enhance the security detail for Adhikari last month.
Until November this year, Adhikari was provided with “Z” category security solely within the state of West Bengal. However, given the heightened threat perception detailed in the central intelligence report, this level of security will now be available to the LoP wherever he travels across India.
Previously, he was assigned “Y” category security in states outside West Bengal.
Sources have indicated that the West Bengal Police is treating these latest intelligence warnings with utmost seriousness and has instructed the state’s intelligence units to take appropriate actions and implement all necessary security protocols.
Both central and state security and intelligence agencies are currently on high alert following reports of HUT affiliates attempting to establish sleeper cells in various districts along the India-Bangladesh border.
Intelligence inputs reveal that two active HUT associates recently entered West Bengal using valid Bangladeshi passports, masquerading as students, and engaged with local youth in the districts of Malda and Murshidabad.
These two HUT members, identified as Ridwan Maruf and Sabbir Amir, initiated conversations with local youth focusing on religious topics, eventually escalating discussions towards the formation of sleeper cells in bordering districts.
