West Bengal's Final Voters' List: Categories Revealed Today
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, February 28 (NationPress) The final voters' list for West Bengal will be unveiled today, categorizing voters into three main groups: “Approved”, “under adjudication”, and “deleted”.
The “approved” category consists of individuals recognized as genuine voters.
Those in the “under adjudication” group are identified under the “logical discrepancy” classification, with their supporting identity documents awaiting evaluation by designated judicial officers.
Supplementary lists will be periodically released for these “under adjudication” voters, contingent on the judicial review progress after the final voters' list is published.
Currently, documents for approximately 60 lakh voters marked under the “logical discrepancy” category are pending judicial adjudication.
The “deleted” category will encompass names already marked for removal from the final voters' list by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Previously, 59 lakh names were omitted from the draft voters' list published last December due to categories such as “deceased”, “duplicate”, “shifted”, and “missing” voters.
With the final voters' list set to be published later today, clarity on the total deletions will emerge, although the complete picture will only be available post the release of the last supplementary list.
As per the latest data, North 24 Parganas has the highest number of “under adjudication” cases at 5.90 lakh, followed by South 24 Parganas with 5.20 lakh, West Midnapore with 1,00,000, East Midnapore with 80,000, Kolkata Dakshin with 78,000, and Kolkata Uttar with 60,000.
The ECI has opted to provide digital copies of the final list to registered political parties in the state to promote transparency. Voters have several options to verify their names in the final roll.
Individuals can visit the official website of the Election Commission of India at eci.gov.in to check their status by entering their name along with their EPIC number.
Additionally, they can access the West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer's official website at ceowestbengal.wb.gov.in.
Another method is to consult the respective District Electoral Officers (DEOs) websites for verification.
For those preferring offline methods, the ECI has made provisions for verification through Booth-Level Officers (BLOs), who will have copies of the final voters' list. Voters can reach out to their respective BLOs for assistance.
Furthermore, printed copies of the final list will be available at polling booths across various regions, allowing voters to check their names in person.
