Will We Continue Searching for Temples Beneath Every Mosque? - Priyanka Chaturvedi

New Delhi, Dec 2 (NationPress) Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi on Monday strongly condemned the rising trend of communal polarisation across the nation by politicising temple-mosque issues and questioned if society would continue to search for temples underneath every mosque, leading to chaos.
Addressing recent conflicts surrounding places of worship, the Shiv Sena (UBT) leader underscored the perils of such actions and called for immediate intervention to avert further unrest.
In an interview with IANS, she stated, 'Are we going to keep searching for temples beneath mosques and create turmoil in the country? This is an attempt to further polarise the nation. It is essential to halt such actions without delay.'
She referenced a prior statement by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, urging individuals to cease the search for temples under mosques, and reminded the public of the Supreme Court’s directive following the Ram Mandir verdict.
Chaturvedi voiced her concerns over the increasing misuse of the Places of Worship Act in various district courts, which has led to violence and loss of lives.
Highlighting the recent violence in Sambhal that resulted in over four fatalities, she cautioned that such disputes could extend to locations like Ajmer, Nizamuddin, and Haji Ali, worsening communal tensions as similar issues arose regarding the Ajmer Sharif dargah in Rajasthan.
Chaturvedi also reproached the Uttar Pradesh government for its inability to maintain law and order in Sambhal during the recent turmoil.
Stressing the duty of the ruling party to avert violence and ensure peace, she remarked, 'The loss of lives and property in Sambhal clearly illustrates the UP government’s failure. They were either incapable of managing the situation or allowed it to escalate for political gain.'
She deemed it 'unfortunate' that opposition leaders, including Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and members of Congress, were barred from visiting Sambhal to engage with affected communities and foster peace.
Regarding Maharashtra politics, Chaturvedi critiqued the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance, deeming it unstable. She pointed out acting Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s recent absence from critical meetings and the ongoing delays in announcing a new government.
'If everything is fine, why did Shinde return to his village after meeting BJP leaders in Delhi? This persistent uncertainty is detrimental to Maharashtra’s interests,' she asserted.
She called for a prompt resolution, noting that despite speculation of a swearing-in on December 5, no formal communication has been issued by the Governor’s office or any coalition parties.
