Bengaluru, Feb 19 (NationPress) A 60-year-old woman was reportedly murdered for her gold jewellery by an individual who entered her home under the guise of requesting water in Nelamangala, located on the outskirts of Bengaluru, according to police updates from Thursday. The tragic incident occurred in the presence of her bedridden husband, who is paralyzed. Authorities apprehended the suspect within hours of the crime.

The event transpired on Pete Street on Wednesday night and was uncovered when a doctor conducted a routine visit to the residence later that evening.

The victim has been identified as Shobha, who resided with her husband in Nelamangala. The couple did not have children, and her husband had been bedridden for the past 12 years following a brain stroke. Shobha was known for her supportive role as the sole caregiver and had maintained friendly relations with neighbors.

According to law enforcement, the couple was financially stable, and a doctor routinely provided physiotherapy to her husband at their home. The crime was discovered during one such medical visit.

Initial investigations indicated that the suspect had observed Shobha wearing gold jewellery earlier that day. Reports suggest that he saw her adorned with more than 100 grams of gold and followed her home.

At her residence, the suspect approached her under the pretense of asking for water. Once she entered her home to fetch water, he followed her inside and allegedly attacked her with a knife, slitting her throat before fleeing with her gold jewellery.

The Nelamangala Town Police quickly arrived at the scene after receiving a tip-off, conducted an inspection, and registered a case of murder and robbery.

The suspect, identified as Shivakumar (35), a wholesale shop owner, was arrested shortly after the incident. Preliminary reports indicate that he was facing financial difficulties and targeted Shobha to settle a debt of Rs 8 lakh.

After the crime, he allegedly returned home on his scooter to avoid arousing suspicion. However, investigators traced the scooter's registration number, leading to his arrest. Police have also recovered the scooter, the knife used in the murder, and mobile phones linked to him.

Authorities found the victim lying next to her husband with severe injuries. Due to his condition, her husband was unable to call for help or respond during the attack.

Ongoing investigations aim to uncover more details surrounding this heinous crime.
