How Are Women Shaping India's Economic Future?

Bhopal, May 31 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday stated that the transforming role of women in India's technological and economic sectors signifies a shift away from outdated barriers that previously hindered women's engagement with modern advancements.

He highlighted that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government is dedicated to ensuring that women are not just participants in these transformative areas but are also leading innovation and policymaking.

As an illustration, he noted that the agricultural domain is undergoing a revolution powered by drone technology, with Indian women spearheading this evolution through their exceptional skills.

During a large assembly of women at the 'Mahila Shashaktikaran Mahasammelan' (Women Empowerment Conclave) held to commemorate the 300th birth anniversary of Devi Ahilyabai Holker, the esteemed ruler of Malwa, PM Modi spoke passionately.

He emphasized the 'Namo Drone Didi Abhiyan', an initiative that has significantly uplifted the morale and financial standing of rural women, providing them a new identity grounded in self-sufficiency and technological adeptness. Women are excelling in various fields, becoming scientists, doctors, engineers, and pilots.

"The rising number of girls engaging in science and mathematics is noteworthy, and their roles in space exploration have been especially remarkable," PM Modi remarked, adding, "More than 100 women scientists and engineers contributed significantly to the Chandrayaan-3 mission, highlighting India's commitment to nurturing female excellence in advanced research.

PM Modi recognized the growth of India's startup ecosystem, where women hold a crucial position.

Nearly 45 percent of startup directors in the country are women, a testament to their entrepreneurial spirit and leadership.

He stressed the significance of financial independence, mentioning that when women earn, their self-respect increases, and their influence in household decision-making grows.

In the last 11 years, his government has placed a high priority on women's economic empowerment, PM Modi stated.

Discussing new initiatives from the past decade, PM Modi remarked, "Before 2014, countless women were without access to banking services. Under the Jan-Dhan scheme, they were given accounts, enabling direct financial aid through various government programs. Women across both urban and rural India are now engaging in self-employment and entrepreneurship.

He pointed out the success of the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, where over 75 percent of its beneficiaries are women. Furthermore, ten crore women are part of self-help groups, showcasing their collective strength and will.

With another initiative, 'Lakhpati Didi', Prime Minister Modi emphasized the government’s goal to create three crore financially independent women, with over 1.5 crore already achieving this milestone.

About the health initiative Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana - Ayushman Bharat, PM Modi recalled a time when women hesitated to seek medical care during pregnancy, fearing financial burdens on their families.

"This scheme has alleviated these worries, providing free medical treatment up to five lakh rupees for women in need," he stated.

Infrastructure developments have also been pivotal in improving women's lives, he noted.

PM Modi mentioned that the provision of tap water in every household has lightened domestic burdens, allowing girls to concentrate on their education.

Access to electricity, LPG, and sanitation has enhanced the quality of life for millions, not only as utilities but as a symbol of respect for women’s dignity, PM Modi emphasized.

He reiterated that his government is inspired by the noble principles of Lokmata Ahilyabai, whose visionary leadership still influences policy decisions today.

"Women are at the heart of every major initiative, including housing projects, where four crore homes have been constructed, most registered in the names of women. Many of these beneficiaries have become property owners for the first time, solidifying their position as key players in the country's development," he added.

PM Modi lauded Ahilyabai as a patron of craftsmanship who established industries to promote the famous Maheshwari saree.

Recalling her contributions to agriculture, PM Modi highlighted the need for crop diversification, urging farmers to look beyond traditional crops like paddy and sugarcane.

He praised Ahilyabai's efforts to utilize barren lands for tribal and nomadic farming, a practice that remains significant today.

He honored the resilience of Indian women, reaffirming that their empowerment is vital for the nation’s prosperity.
