Aizawl, Jan 6 (NationPress) The gender ratio in Mizoram's electoral rolls is recorded at 1,066, which is higher than the national average, as reported by officials on Monday.

Officials noted that the national gender ratio on the electoral rolls has risen from 940 in 2023 to 948 in 2024.

A senior election official mentioned that, similar to previous years, women voters have outnumbered male voters in the final electoral rolls of Mizoram. These rolls were published on Monday following a special summary revision, with January 1, 2025, designated as the qualifying date.

The official highlighted that the final electoral rolls indicate there are 448,925 female electors, surpassing the 420,888 male voters by 28,037.

In comparison to the special summary revision carried out last year, Mizoram's total voter count has increased by 1.5 percent, culminating in a total of 869,813 voters for 2025, as stated by the official.

Among Mizoram's 11 districts, Mamit district is the only one where male voters outnumber females, exceeding them by 576.

Aizawl district leads in voter numbers with 292,115 voters, followed by Lunglei with 102,304, Lawngtlai with 94,514, and Mamit with 66,552.

Hnahthial district, established in 2019, has the fewest electors, totaling 16,436.

The final electoral roll reflects an increase of 13,516 voters (1.5 percent) compared to the draft list published on October 29 of the previous year, which recorded 856,297 voters.

Following the directives from the Election Commission, the final electoral rolls, featuring photo identification, were published on Monday after a special summary revision that lasted over two months, with January 1, 2025, as the qualifying date.

Mizoram, with an approximate population of 1.2 million, has 40 assembly constituencies, one Lok Sabha seat, and one Rajya Sabha seat, along with 1,301 polling stations throughout the state.

This mountainous region of Mizoram became the 23rd state in the Indian Union in February 1987. It was previously a district of Assam until 1972 when it was designated as a Union Territory. Nestled between Myanmar to the east and south and Bangladesh to the west, Mizoram occupies a region of significant strategic importance in northeastern India.
