New Delhi, April 6 (NationPress) A strong wave of endorsement is sweeping across the nation for the Women’s Reservation Bill, with political authorities and influential personalities asserting that this forthcoming legislation will greatly boost women’s involvement in governance and decision-making, while also addressing societal demands through a more inclusive lens.

In a conversation with IANS in Lucknow, Kiran Bedi, a former IPS officer and ex-Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, underlined the profound impact this Bill could have, stating it would introduce a grassroots perspective into policy formulation. She emphasized that the inclusion of women would render governance more holistic and comprehensive, facilitating a deeper understanding of societal challenges.

“This initiative will provide a grassroots perspective, offering insights from the ground. Their understanding will enhance the holistic view of governance, addressing societal needs from a different angle and empowering women with a heightened sense of security. I foresee numerous significant advantages stemming from this,” she remarked.

Bedi further asserted that as women advance in ranks, their roles within governance and decision-making bodies will widen, thereby fortifying democratic processes. “The perspective I referred to originates at the grassroots level, but as it ascends, women will increasingly partake in governance and decision-making forums,” she added.

Sharing similar views, Uttar Pradesh State Women’s Commission Vice Chairperson Aparna Yadav stated that this move conveys a powerful message regarding the government’s dedication to women’s empowerment. She noted that the Bill is one of the initial major initiatives undertaken in the new Parliament building.

“I believe the Prime Minister has delivered a very clear and robust message. Upon the formation of the new Parliament, the first action taken was to pass the Women's Reservation Bill, which allocates 33 percent reservation for women,” she expressed.

In Jaipur, Rakhi Rathore, President of BJP Mahila Morcha, welcomed the proposal to prolong the Parliament session for discussions on the Bill, asserting that it would empower women and significantly enhance their representation in legislative bodies.

From Bihar, former Deputy Chief Minister Renu Devi highlighted the broader political ramifications of the Bill, mentioning that an increased presence of women in Parliament would favor policymaking that prioritizes women-centric issues. She called upon all political parties to collaborate during the special session summoned by the Prime Minister.

“With 273 women MPs in Parliament, decisions will be more favorable to women's interests. It is crucial for all parties to unite and support this vital legislation,” she stated.

Meanwhile, in Panchkula, Haryana, BJP leader Banto Kataria expressed hope regarding the Bill’s swift passage, attributing the focus on this issue to the Prime Minister’s leadership.

“The visionary Prime Minister addressed this Bill on the inaugural day of the new Parliament. We anticipate that the Bill will receive approval on the 18th. The future is bright for our sisters, and we all express our gratitude to the Prime Minister,” she said.
