New Delhi, April 13 (NationPress) The call for support for the Women’s Reservation Bill resonated on Monday, with leaders and stakeholders lauding it as a pivotal move toward empowering women and enhancing their role in governance.
Union Minister Annpurna Devi extended her appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his address to women nationwide during the Nari Shakti Vandan Conference, underscoring the importance of this initiative.
In an interview with IANS, Annpurna Devi noted that the conference featured women from various sectors, including sports, culture, arts, education, media, and healthcare, showcasing the government's inclusive approach.
Labeling the Women’s Reservation Bill as a “historic milestone,” she announced that a special parliamentary session has been organized to facilitate the passage of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam. She urged all political factions to unite beyond party divides to ensure the Bill’s enactment for the greater good of women.
She further highlighted that women, who represent almost half of the nation’s populace, have faced long-standing challenges in achieving adequate representation in legislative bodies. “It is essential that their years of struggle yield results. To guarantee their active involvement in the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies by 2029, every individual must contribute to this initiative,” she stated.
Echoing these sentiments, Vijaya Kishore Rahatkar, Chairperson of the National Commission for Women, expressed that women nationwide are filled with enthusiasm and hope regarding the forthcoming special parliamentary session.
“Today, the Prime Minister emphasized that with a united front, we aim to integrate the women of our nation into the mainstream, thereby empowering all the sisters of our country,” she remarked, calling this initiative a historic achievement.
Rahatkar also stressed the importance of collaborative efforts to ensure the effective execution of the Bill once ratified. “As women in our families advance, they elevate not only their homes but also the community and the nation,” she affirmed.
“We are elated. The prospect of so many women stepping forward transcends mere numbers. We will witness significant positive outcomes as women engage with public issues, work actively, connect with communities, and contribute to the development of their regions,” she continued.
Kathak dancer Shovana Narayan remarked, “All our women possess talent and capability. They will receive opportunities that will bolster their mental strength, confidence, and ability to progress. Their contributions will not only benefit specific communities but the entire society and India as a whole.”
Spiritual Mentor, Jai Madaan stated, “Our national song honors Ma Durga, Ma Saraswati, and Ma Lakshmi. Hence, equality in our Parliament is essential. I view the initiation of 33 percent reservation as a positive and just step forward.”
