New Delhi, April 13 (NationPress) As Parliament prepares to reconvene for the discussion of the Women's Reservation Bill, referred to as the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, female leaders from across the political landscape emphasized on Monday that its approval would signify the achievement of a long-desired goal for equal representation.

The remarks were made during the Nari Shakti Vandan Sammelan held at Vigyan Bhawan in the capital. Many speakers noted that the push for women's reservation has extended over a period exceeding 30 years, voicing optimism that the legislation will soon come to fruition.

Meira Kumar, former Lok Sabha Speaker and Congress leader, shared her insights with IANS, stating, "I have observed this journey firsthand, and this fight has been persistent for the last 30 years. Our quest for representation has been ongoing for over three decades. When it finally materializes, we will feel that our efforts have reached their conclusion and fulfillment."

Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murty highlighted the significance of power in decision-making.

She remarked, "It is crucial for women to have the authority to shape their own futures. A woman devoid of power cannot genuinely possess confidence. This is a universal concern, and I believe we must seize this opportunity to the fullest."

BJP MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat also expressed her optimism regarding the Bill's approval.

"There is an atmosphere of enthusiasm everywhere. It feels as though this right is finally being bestowed upon us. With support from all political factions for women's empowerment, I am hopeful that the Bill will be enacted. It will be a historic occasion and an essential milestone for our nation," she stated.

Earlier, PM Modi remarked that although he may not be a 'Grihasthi' (householder), he has an understanding of domestic life, noting that through various government initiatives, women are gaining economic empowerment.

In his address at the Nari Shakti Vandan Sammelan in Vigyan Bhawan, the Prime Minister stated that the path to Parliament is becoming more accessible for women, emphasizing their increasingly vital role.

"Parliament stands on the brink of making new history, one that will fulfill both the aspirations of the past and the resolutions for the future," he said.

He underscored that the government's aim and priority is to ensure the passage of the amendment bill for the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam through dialogue, cooperation, and the participation of all.

"When the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam was introduced in 2023, it received unanimous approval from all parties in Parliament," PM Modi noted.

The Prime Minister also praised Panchayati Raj institutions as exemplary models of women's leadership, asserting that India's 'Nari Shakti' (women power) has made significant contributions to nation-building.

The success of the Jal Jeevan Mission stands out as a prime example of women's impactful roles at the Panchayat level.

PM Modi added that studies show that increased involvement of women in decision-making leads to heightened sensitivity and responsiveness within systems.

On April 12, PM Modi reached out to all political parties, seeking their backing for the amendment to the Women's Reservation Bill, further amplifying hopes for its approval in the forthcoming Parliamentary session.
