New Delhi, April 7 (NationPress) The government emphasized that nutritious food, adequate sleep, and regular exercise are essential for enhancing health, as stated on Monday, coinciding with World Health Day.

Every year, World Health Day is observed on April 7. The theme for this year is Healthy beginnings, hopeful futures.

“This #WorldHealthDay, let’s commit to small healthy habits for a brighter, stronger future,” the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare posted on the social media platform X.

In a video accompanying the post, the ministry encouraged individuals to consume wholesome foods, emphasizing an increase in fruits and vegetables; to be more active, and to reduce sedentary behavior.

“Engage in activities like walking, running, dancing, or stretching for 30 minutes daily to maintain fitness,” the ministry advised.

“Ensure you get a good night’s sleep to rejuvenate your body and mind,” it added.

The Ministry also recommended drinking more water to “keep the body cool and energy levels high” and suggested taking breaks to support mental health.

“On this World Health Day, let's pledge to prioritize our health every single day,” the Ministry urged.

Previously, Prime Minister Narendra Modi encouraged citizens to embrace a healthier lifestyle and strive for a life devoid of obesity.

He stressed that maintaining personal fitness would significantly contribute to India's ambition of becoming a developed nation — Viksit Bharat.

“On World Health Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to building a healthier world. Our government will continue to prioritize healthcare and invest in various aspects of people’s well-being. Good health is the bedrock of every thriving society!” PM Modi posted on X.

In a video message shared on the platform, the Prime Minister reiterated the age-old wisdom that “health is the ultimate fortune and the ultimate wealth,” while sounding an alarm regarding India's escalating obesity epidemic.

“You all know that our modern lifestyle poses a significant threat to our health. A recent report has highlighted the obesity crisis, predicting that by 2050, over 440 million Indians will be affected by obesity. This is alarming. Just imagine how severe this crisis could be?” he said.

He urged for immediate measures to avert such a scenario and proposed a straightforward adjustment: “I ask you to promise me today that we will all aim to reduce our cooking oil intake by 10 percent. This step will greatly aid in combating obesity.”

He further motivated individuals to weave regular physical activity into their daily lives.

“Additionally, we must integrate exercise into our routines. If we maintain our fitness, it will significantly contribute to the journey towards a Viksit Bharat,” he concluded.
