India Upgrades Digital Health Framework to Boost Disease Surveillance

New Delhi, March 9 (NationPress) The Indian government is enhancing its digital health infrastructure as part of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, with a focus on fortifying primary healthcare services through health and wellness centers, announced Union Minister of State for Health and Ayush, Prataprao Jadhav, on Monday.
He emphasized that “we are also broadening our immunization initiatives, rolling out new vaccines, and enhancing the effectiveness of our disease surveillance systems.”
Speaking at an event hosted by the National Institute of Health and Family Welfare (NIHFW) in New Delhi, the minister underscored the necessity of reinforcing public health institutions and acknowledged the pivotal role of NIHFW in cultivating skilled healthcare professionals and supporting national health initiatives.
Dr. Sunita Sharma, Director General of Health Services (DGHS), commended the institute for its ongoing contributions to public health research, training, and providing policy support to the government.
She remarked that the institute has significantly bolstered the capacity of India’s healthcare workforce and has been instrumental in the successful implementation of national health programs.
In his speech, Dr. Sunil Vilasrao Gitte, Director of NIHFW, highlighted the institute’s remarkable achievements over the past year, which include advancements in public health training, innovative research initiatives, and collaborations aimed at strengthening the nation’s health systems.
During the event, the institute's annual publications, including “Dharna,” the HPPI Journal, and “Prospects of Placement Cell,” were officially launched by the dignitaries.
The ministry also announced that awards were given to outstanding employees, students, and sports achievers, recognizing their commitment and excellence. The celebration featured cultural performances by students, showcasing the vibrant academic atmosphere of the institute.
“The Annual Day celebration reaffirmed NIHFW’s dedication to promoting public health education, research, and policy support, aiming to enhance healthcare delivery and population health across the country. Dean of the Institute, Prof. V.K. Tiwari, expressed gratitude to all esteemed guests and attendees,” stated the ministry.
