Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 9 (NationPress) Maruti Suzuki India Limited announced on Monday that it achieved a significant milestone in green logistics by sending over 5.85 lakh vehicles through railways in 2025, marking an 18 percent increase over the previous year, 2024.
The company's reliance on rail transportation for its outbound logistics has surged dramatically, jumping from 5.1 percent in 2016 to 26 percent in 2025. This shift has notably contributed to a reduction in carbon emissions, lowered the nation’s oil imports, and alleviated road congestion, as per the automaker's report.
“The year 2025 signifies our highest-ever performance in rail dispatch, with more than 5.85 lakh units shipped. We bolstered our green logistics initiatives through two groundbreaking events: the launch of India’s largest automobile in-plant railway siding at our Manesar facility, and the dispatch of vehicles by rail to the Kashmir valley, utilizing the world’s highest railway arch bridge over the Chenab River—an industry first,” stated Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited.
“Our mid-term objective is to escalate rail-based vehicle dispatches to 35 percent by FY2030-31, thereby supporting India’s net-zero ambition by 2070,” he added.
Since FY 2014-15, Maruti Suzuki has successfully transported over 28 lakh vehicles from 22 destinations, covering more than 600 cities across India through a hub-and-spoke model. Presently, the company operates over 45 flexi deck rakes, each capable of carrying around 260 vehicles per trip.
In 2025, rail shipments from Maruti Suzuki’s in-plant railway siding located in Gujarat and Manesar represented 53 percent of the company’s total rail dispatches.
