New Delhi, April 19 (NationPress) To facilitate the effective execution of Mahatma Gandhi NREGA, a total of Rs 17,744.19 crore is being disbursed to various states and union territories as the initial instalment for the financial year 2026–27, as announced by Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
The minister called on states to guarantee the timely and efficient use of these funds, ensuring that wage payments are processed without any delays.
He also pointed out that additional funds are being allocated for material and administrative expenses.
Chouhan stressed the importance of uninterrupted operations under Mahatma Gandhi NREGA at the grassroots level.
He asserted that ensuring prompt access to work for laborers and timely wage payments is of utmost importance.
States were encouraged to guarantee the availability of sufficient work opportunities at the Gram Panchayat level to prevent any worker from experiencing employment delays.
As per an official statement, he reiterated that every worker seeking employment must receive work within the mandated timeframe, and wage payments should be ensured without any delays across all levels.
The minister further highlighted the necessity of effective management at the worksite and urged states to prioritize the distribution of Job Cards to eligible rural households that have not yet been covered.
He emphasized that willing households should be offered employment within a specific timeframe, ensuring that no eligible family is deprived of livelihood opportunities.
Chouhan noted that the current period marks a crucial transitional phase, necessitating the continuation of employment under Mahatma Gandhi NREGA while also preparing for the effective implementation of the VB–G RAM G Act.
Regarding the VB–G RAM G Act, the Union Minister explained that it aims to create a progressive, empowerment-focused rural development framework by ensuring a statutory guarantee of 125 days of wage employment for rural households. He urged states to finalize all preparatory measures in a timely manner to facilitate the effective execution of the program.
