Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 20 (NationPress) The Central government has confirmed that there will be no interruption in the provision of wage employment for rural households under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) as a result of the conflict in West Asia, according to an official statement released on Monday.
Additionally, in preparation for the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G), the government is focusing on ensuring timely Direct Benefit Transfers, utilizing real-time monitoring through AwaasSoft, implementing geo-tagging, and expediting the completion of ongoing housing projects.
To realize the goal of “Housing for All” in rural regions, the Ministry is executing the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G), aiming to construct 4.95 crore houses by March 2029.
Approximately Rs 17,744 crore is being disbursed as the first installment for the wage component, ensuring seamless payment flows.
The statement from the Ministry of Rural Development assured that a thorough review of preparedness measures has been conducted to guarantee the uninterrupted execution of key rural welfare and infrastructure initiatives amidst the ongoing crisis in West Asia.
It emphasized that these programs would remain safeguarded against potential impacts on global supply chains, commodity prices, and inflationary trends.
The Ministry is actively monitoring developments that could indirectly affect rural livelihoods, housing construction, road development, and watershed activities. Proactive measures have been established to maintain the continuity of benefits, timely fund transfers, and the smooth implementation of existing programs, the statement noted.
All statutory entitlements, including demand-driven employment and prompt wage payments under MGNREGA, continue to be fully enforced without any reductions. The prevailing Central Government-notified wage rates remain applicable.
Robust support is being provided through man-days, sanitation, drinking water, LPG, and electricity to ensure beneficiaries receive a comprehensive suite of essential services under PMAY-G.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana-IV, approximately 12,100 km of roadwork has been approved and is currently in the tendering phase. The Ministry has indicated that exposure to global volatility remains limited, as bitumen constitutes a relatively small portion of the total project costs.
