AFC Bournemouth Secures Argentine Full-Back Julio Soler

Bournemouth, Jan 7 (NationPress) AFC Bournemouth has officially confirmed the addition of full-back Julio Soler on a long-term contract. The 19-year-old Argentine youth international has joined from Primera Division club Lanús for an undisclosed transfer fee. Soler becomes the club's second senior men's player to join during the January transfer window, following Matai Akinmboni.

“We are thrilled to have Julio on board at AFC Bournemouth. He is a player we have closely tracked and his development has truly impressed us,” stated president of football operations Tiago Pinto in an interview with afcb.co.uk.

Originally from Asuncion, the capital of Paraguay, Julio moved to Argentina at a young age and signed with Lanús at the age of nine. He advanced through the club's ranks and made his senior debut in a 1-0 win against Independiente in 2022, accumulating a total of 58 senior appearances.

Julio arrives at Vitality Stadium after being part of the Argentine squad at last summer's Olympic Games in Paris, under the guidance of legendary midfielder Javier Mascherano, where he started in every group match. This week, he has also been named in the upcoming squad for the CONMEBOL Sudamericano Sub-20, having previously captained the team, and was called up to Lionel Scaloni’s senior squad in October 2024 for World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela and Bolivia.

First-team technical director Simon Francis remarked, “Julio is another highly talented young prospect we are excited to welcome, and we are glad to have him in our squad. With the expertise of Andoni and his coaching staff in developing young talents, we eagerly anticipate Julio’s growth with us.”

Bournemouth is strengthening its squad as they currently sit in seventh place in the league standings. With nine victories, six draws, and five losses, the Cherries are engaged in the competition to secure a position in European tournaments.
