Alexander Isak of Newcastle United Earns Premier League December Player of the Month Title

Newcastle, Jan 10 (NationPress) Alexander Isak, the forward for Newcastle, has been honored with the Premier League December Player of the Month accolade, making him the fourth Swedish player ever to attain this prestigious recognition. This achievement marks the first time in his career that he has received this award, following an outstanding month during which he scored eight goals and provided two assists in just six Premier League matches.

In December, Isak emerged as the top scorer in the Premier League, finding the back of the net in every one of his appearances as Newcastle clinched four victories, recorded one draw, and suffered only one defeat, thereby enhancing their chances for a top-four finish.

Among his remarkable performances was a hat-trick against Ipswich Town, along with goals against notable teams such as Liverpool, Brentford, Leicester City, Aston Villa, and Manchester United. His striking effort during the thrilling 3-3 encounter with league leaders Liverpool has been nominated for December's Guinness Goal of the Month award.

Since the award's inception in the 1994/95 season, Isak is only the fourth Swedish player to win it. The previous recipients include Freddie Ljungberg of Arsenal (April 2002), Johan Elmander from Bolton Wanderers (November 2010), and Zlatan Ibrahimovic with Manchester United (December 2016).

Isak is the first player from Newcastle to receive this honor since Miguel Almiron won it in October 2022. He topped an eight-player shortlist after the public votes on the EA Sports website were aggregated with those from a panel of football specialists.

Currently, Isak has scored in his last seven Premier League matches. With the upcoming match against Wolverhampton Wanderers, he has an opportunity to become the sixth player in history to score in eight consecutive games. Should he find the net, he would be just three goals shy of Jamie Vardy's record for the most consecutive matches scored in.

The 25-year-old forward recently netted in Newcastle's EFL Cup semifinal first-leg triumph against Arsenal, marking his 50th goal in all competitions for the club. He achieved this milestone in just 89 matches, making him the third-fastest player to reach this landmark for Newcastle since the Premier League's inception, following Andrew Cole (50 matches) and Les Ferdinand (84).

Isak surpassed Alan Shearer, the Premier League's all-time leading scorer, by five appearances to reach the half-century mark.
