Newcastle, Feb 28 (NationPress) Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe stated he will not take any unnecessary risks regarding Alexander Isak's fitness, but emphasized that if he's fit, he'll play in the upcoming FA Cup fifth round match against Brighton & Hove Albion this Sunday.

The Magpies are set to host Fabian Hurzeler's squad at St. James' Park, with a spot in the quarter-finals on the line. Isak was absent during Wednesday night's 2-0 Premier League loss to Liverpool due to a minor groin issue, which Howe assures is not a long-term concern.

However, he refrained from confirming whether the Swedish international would be fit to return against the Seagulls as Newcastle aims to secure their place in the last eight of the prestigious domestic cup.

“We will assess him today. I haven't had the chance to see him since the match. We will evaluate his condition today. We don't perceive it as a long-term issue. We took no risks on Wednesday and cannot afford to at this stage of the season,” Howe explained during a press briefing.

“Every player carries a certain risk, but we won't jeopardize his long-term fitness. We'll see how he is today, and if he is fit, he will play,” Howe added.

The Swedish striker has been in exceptional form this season, playing a crucial role in Newcastle's notable achievements, including reaching the Carabao Cup final and the FA Cup fifth round.

Howe further remarked that although the team has a “different look” in Isak's absence, they can still achieve success without him.

“Naturally, the team presents a completely different aspect when he is not playing. Nevertheless, it remains a squad capable of success, albeit through alternative strategies.

“Alex possesses exceptional qualities. We have tailored our game around his abilities. He is a remarkable talent, endowed with skills that enhance our performance, and that is not intended to undermine anyone else in the squad,” he concluded.
