Coimbatore, Oct 3 (NationPress) Arjun Prasad has finally clinched his first title after a lengthy wait, securing a victory by four strokes at the Rs 1 crore Tamil Nadu Open 2025, hosted at the Coimbatore Golf Club. The 26-year-old player, who maintained his lead since Round Two with scores of 70-70-68-72, entered the final round boasting a substantial six-shot advantage, ultimately finishing with a total score of eight-under 280 after a steady even-par 72 on the last day.

Based in Delhi, Prasad turned professional in 2017 and was the only competitor this week to avoid an over-par score, earning a prize of INR 15 lakh and solidifying his position in second on the PGTI Order of Merit with total earnings for the season reaching INR 84,71,599.

Arjun has demonstrated remarkable consistency this season, with ten top-10 finishes, including two second-place results, closing the gap with PGTI money list leader Yuvraj Sandhu to under INR 4 lakh.

In other results, Chandigarh’s Jairaj Singh Sandhu (75-71-70-68) achieved the joint lowest score of the final round with a 68, finishing the tournament at four-under 284, tying for second place. This performance elevated him 12 spots to 22nd in the PGTI merit list.

Sri Lankan player N. Thangaraja (72-73-69-70) also completed the last round with a 70, securing a shared runner-up position with Jairaj at four-under 284, moving him up to third place in the PGTI Ranking.

Hyderabad’s Mohd Azhar (68) and Bangladesh’s Jamal Hossain (71) rounded off the week tied for fourth at two-under 286.

Despite a commanding lead at the start, Arjun experienced some early nerves on the front nine, recording two bogeys against a birdie. However, a remarkable par-save on the 10th hole paved the way for his victorious finish.

Prasad then sank two long birdie putts and executed a series of strong pars and chip shots, ultimately winning the tournament despite bogeying the final hole.

A jubilant Arjun shared, “I’m thrilled to finally achieve this win today. It took a moment to sink in. Staying focused throughout the day was crucial.”

“I didn’t sleep well the previous night, but I woke up early, completed my warm-up routine, and felt relaxed when I arrived at the course. My caddie, Mohan, and I reviewed our strategy from the last three days before the round.”

“The front-nine had its ups and downs, but I maintained my composure and focused on hitting fairways and greens. The excellent par save on the 11th sparked my momentum. I then made crucial birdie putts—those that win tournaments. I’m grateful for my family and caddie’s unwavering support.”

“Securing my spot at the DP World India Championship in two weeks at the Delhi Golf Club is a significant boost. Competing alongside players like Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood is a dream come true. I’m especially looking forward to playing with Tommy again, who was my partner at the 2016 Indian Open when I was an amateur.”
