Arne Slot's Mixed Feelings Following Liverpool's Victory Against Girona

Girona, Dec 11 (NationPress) Liverpool's manager Arne Slot acknowledged his contentment with the outcome, marking six victories in six matches, but voiced disappointment regarding the performance during Liverpool's away triumph over Girona in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The team secured their sixth successive win in the league phase, thanks to a penalty kick converted by Mohamed Salah in the 63rd minute at Estadi Montilivi.

Alisson Becker made a significant return after a two-month injury hiatus, making several pivotal saves in the first half to thwart the La Liga side, ensuring a goalless scoreline at halftime.

"When it comes to all six games, I'm genuinely pleased with the results. I feel good about the five (other) matches in terms of our play. However, I am far from pleased with tonight's performance," Slot stated during the post-match press conference.

"Facing a team that possesses such an excellent understanding of football and knows how to transition the ball from the back—similar to teams we've encountered recently like Manchester City or Real Madrid—you must maintain a high intensity to challenge them effectively. If you delay pressing for even a few seconds and are easily outmaneuvered when you do press, this team can create significant problems for you," he explained.

"Another issue was our lack of aggression whenever we lost possession. Every time we relinquished the ball, they could consistently advance toward our goal, either taking a shot or forcing a blocked attempt, which allowed us to counter-attack. Overall, we had hardly any control over the match; perhaps the second half showed slight improvement, but I am attempting to remain positive," he added.

With their place in the knockout stages already secured, this victory positions Liverpool on the cusp of a guaranteed top-eight finish, which would enable them to advance directly to the last 16 and avoid the playoffs.
