New Delhi, May 19 (NationPress) The Bangladesh cricket team’s tour in the UAE has seen an extension, as an additional T20I has been added, resulting in a total of three matches. The newly scheduled third T20I will take place on May 21 in Sharjah, the same venue as the first two matches.
As reported by ESPNcricinfo, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) requested this extra match, which was promptly accepted by the Emirates Cricket Board. This update arrives amidst the rising uncertainty regarding Bangladesh's upcoming T20I series in Pakistan, which was initially set to commence on May 25.
Bangladesh triumphed over the UAE in the series opener last Saturday, and these matches were meant as a preparatory phase for the more significant five-match T20I series against Pakistan. However, the recent geopolitical tensions in the region, especially between India and Pakistan, have complicated the cricketing schedule.
The Pakistan Super League (PSL), also impacted by the unrest, faced a temporary suspension, causing a ripple effect on Pakistan's home series against Bangladesh. With a ceasefire now established, the PSL final has been rescheduled for May 25, the same day originally planned for the Bangladesh-Pakistan T20I.
“Once the ceasefire was declared, a new date for the PSL final was set – May 25 – which necessitated the postponement of the Bangladesh tour,” reported ESPNcricinfo.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has subsequently provided the BCB with a revised schedule, proposing the first T20I to kick off on May 27 and the final match to occur on June 5.
In the interim, Bangladesh has chosen to remain in the UAE rather than returning home, facilitating a direct flight to Pakistan should the series proceed as planned. This extended stay in the Gulf is viewed as a strategic measure to avoid logistical challenges and maintain match readiness for the tour.
According to ESPNcricinfo, the BCB has received approval from the Bangladesh government to tour Pakistan, but the board is currently consulting with players before making a final decision.
“The board is now gathering players’ feedback on this matter. The aim was to reach a final decision by May 20,” the report concluded.
