New Delhi, July 30 (NationPress) The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have officially appointed Bharat Arun, the former bowling coach of India, as their new bowling coach in preparation for the 2026 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

According to sources familiar with the situation, Arun's addition to LSG comes after the franchise's seventh-place finish in IPL 2025. "It’s confirmed that Arun is now with LSG as their bowling coach. After IPL 2025 concluded, LSG sought a top-notch fast-bowling coach from the Indian cricketing community, and they have now successfully secured his services," sources stated on Wednesday.

IANS attempted to reach Arun for his comments but had not received a response at the time of publication. Arun’s transition to LSG, which is led by India’s wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, also marks the end of his four-year tenure with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Arun initially joined KKR ahead of the 2022 season, contributing to the team’s victory in the 2024 IPL. His departure from KKR comes just a day after the franchise let go of head coach Chandrakant Pandit.

Sources indicate that alongside Arun's hiring, there are uncertainties regarding the future of head coach Justin Langer and mentor Zaheer Khan. “There are indications that Langer may be leaving the franchise, while discussions with Zaheer are ongoing,” they added.

Arun has had two significant terms as the bowling coach for the Indian national team—from 2014 to 2015 and again from 2017 until the 2021 T20 World Cup, where he played a crucial role in the fast-bowling evolution of the men’s team.

He was also part of the Indian team that clinched the Under-19 World Cup in Australia in 2012 and has coached various teams in domestic cricket, including Tamil Nadu, Bengal, and Hyderabad.

In addition, Arun served as the bowling coach for the Royal Challengers Bangalore from 2015 to 2017.

Point of View

It is crucial to note that Bharat Arun's appointment signifies LSG's commitment to enhancing their performance in the IPL. His expertise in developing fast bowlers could be pivotal for the franchise. However, with uncertainty surrounding other coaching staff members, LSG must navigate these changes strategically to foster a winning culture.
