Bumrah Achieves 200 Test Wickets as Sixth Indian Paceman

Melbourne, Dec 29 (NationPress) Fast-bowling ace Jasprit Bumrah has marked his name in the record books as the sixth Indian fast-bowler to claim 200 wickets in men's Test cricket. This remarkable achievement came during his 44th Test match when he had Travis Head caught at mid-wicket for just one run, celebrating with both arms raised in sheer delight.
Notably, Bumrah is the only bowler in Test cricket history to reach this milestone with an average superior to 19.56, surpassing the legendary West Indies bowler Joel Garner, who had an average of 20.34 at the same milestone.
Making his Test debut in 2018, Bumrah is now the second-fastest Indian to achieve this feat, standing level with Ravindra Jadeja. The record for the fastest Indian to take 200 Test wickets belongs to the recently retired Ravichandran Ashwin, who accomplished this in 37 innings.
Among Indian fast-bowlers, Bumrah is the quickest, with only the iconic Kapil Dev reaching his 200th wicket in his 50th Test. Overall, the record for the fastest to 200 Test wickets belongs to Yasir Shah of Pakistan, who achieved this in just 33 Tests.
In terms of balls bowled, Bumrah reached the 200-wicket milestone with 8484 deliveries, making him the fourth-fastest in Test cricket history, behind Pakistan's Waqar Younis (7725), South Africa's Dale Steyn (7848), and Kagiso Rabada (8153).
Following this achievement, Bumrah quickly dismissed Mitchell Marsh and Alex Carey within his next 10 deliveries, significantly weakening Australia's batting lineup in their second innings of the ongoing Boxing Day Test.
“200 sticks at 19.56. Unreal. What a bowler. Mind-boggling stuff. Well done Boom Boom,” praised former India head coach Ravi Shastri on ‘X’. “The Greatest of all time is doing what he does best here at the ‘G’ .. @Jaspritbumrah93 is incredible ..,” commented former England captain Michael Vaughan on ‘X’.
