Chennai, March 8 (NationPress) Chennaiyin FC aims to conclude the Indian Super League 2024-25 regular season on a high note as they host Jamshedpur FC at the Marina Arena this Sunday, looking to gather momentum for the forthcoming Super Cup.

Chennaiyin boasts a favorable head-to-head record against Jamshedpur in their 15 encounters within the Indian Super League, with seven victories and five draws. Their last meeting this season resulted in a commanding 5-1 victory for the Marina Machans, marking their largest win of the season. Playing at home, Chennaiyin aims to enhance that record and conclude the regular league season positively, building up momentum for the Super Cup.

During the pre-match press conference, head coach Owen Coyle commended Jamshedpur's head coach Khalid Jamil and expressed excitement for the upcoming clash.

“I have great respect for Khalid (Jamil). Since his arrival in the league, I have found him to be an excellent coach. I recall his impressive work at NorthEast. He has done a tremendous job leading Jamshedpur to the playoffs. We recognize they are formidable opponents, and we are eager for the match. Our previous encounter there showcased one of our better performances this season; we displayed our capabilities, and we intend to reach that level again tomorrow. Our objective is to secure a victory and prepare ourselves for the upcoming Super Cup,” said Coyle.

Attacker Farukh Choudhary, one of two Chennaiyin FC players selected for the Indian national team for the upcoming matches against Maldives and Bangladesh, joined Coyle at the press conference, alongside Irfan Yadwad.

Reflecting on the season and his selection, Farukh stated: “Individually, our performance has been inconsistent this season. Greater consistency could have led to more points, which is a key area for me to assess.”

“Moreover, having supportive coaches, like gaffer (Coyle), who consistently back me, is invaluable. During my last two national camps, I performed decently, scored a goal, and even played as a number 10 in one instance. Perhaps that’s why Manolo Marquez has brought me back,” he added.

“The trust the coaches have in me is crucial, especially during challenging times when I need encouragement the most. This selection boosts my confidence, and I plan to work hard, replicate my efforts here, and demonstrate my skills,” he concluded.

Regarding team news for the upcoming match against Jamshedpur, coach Coyle revealed that Connor Shields is uncertain to play due to an injury.
