Chennai, Jan 29 (NationPress) Chennaiyin FC aims to capitalize on their unbeaten streak against Kerala Blasters FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai when they face off in their Indian Super League encounter this Thursday. The Marina Machans have a perfect record against the Blasters at the Marina Arena, a streak that dates back to the league's inception 11 years ago.

During a media briefing in Chennai ahead of this southern derby, head coach Owen Coyle stressed the match's importance, highlighting the value of their unbeaten home record.

“It’s a derby match; it’s not just about securing three points but also about the bragging rights for our fans. We must be prepared to fight for it. We’re eagerly anticipating the game; it’s always thrilling against Kerala, and we must ensure we emerge victorious. We felt we underperformed in the away match, but our home track record against Kerala is impressive, and we aim to maintain that,” Coyle stated.

Coyle elaborated on how this match could serve as a catalyst for his team's revival as they navigate a challenging phase.

“Timing is perfect to face Kerala (Blasters) – any moment is ideal to confront your rivals. We want to demonstrate our determination, our love for the game. Football can be unforgiving, but our players are passionate and committed to winning; that's what we need to display on the field tomorrow night,” Coyle remarked.

“We cannot change what has occurred in the past. However, we can influence what lies ahead, starting with Kerala (Blasters). It’s crucial to showcase our traits and finish the season strong. We have six matches ahead of us, all of which are winnable, but we must begin by clinching the first one,” he added.

Accompanying Coyle at the press conference was captain Ryan Edwards, who emphasized his strategy to aid teammates in bouncing back from mistakes and outlined the path forward.

“I aim to communicate with each player, helping them understand that there’s ample time to perform. We’ve faced Odisha FC and NorthEast United in tough away matches where we managed to secure victories after trailing. Yet, individual mistakes must be minimized, and it’s vital for players to learn from these quickly since there’s always a chance to alter the outcome in football,” he explained.

Finally, Coyle disclosed that Gurkirat Singh is absent for personal reasons and confirmed that Vignesh Dakshinamurthy will also miss the Kerala match. He did assure that Lukas Brambilla is fit and available for selection.
