Nyon, Feb 28 (NationPress) UEFA has placed referee David Coote on suspension following inquiries into a video that surfaced showing the English official inhaling ‘white powder’ during his officiating duties at Euro 2024 last summer.

After a thorough investigation, Europe's football governing body has barred the disgraced referee from officiating any UEFA matches until June 30, 2026.

UEFA's statement noted, "David Coote Incidents and sanction: General principles of conduct, Art. 11(1) DR, Violating the basic rules of decent conduct, Art. 11(2)(b) DR, Bringing the sport of football, and UEFA in particular, into disrepute, Art. 11(2)(d) DR, Ban from exercising any UEFA refereeing activity until 30 June 2026."

The Professional Game Match Officials Ltd (PGMOL) has also suspended Coote’s contract, citing a breach of contract due to derogatory remarks he allegedly made about former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and the club in previous video footage.

Additionally, Coote is still under scrutiny by the Football Association (FA) regarding accusations that he discussed issuing a yellow card prior to a Championship match between Leeds and West Brom in 2019. The 42-year-old referee is being questioned about a yellow card he issued to Leeds player Ezgjan Alioski during the Leeds United versus West Bromwich Albion encounter in October 2019.

Coote has firmly denied all allegations and issued a statement asserting his commitment to upholding the integrity of the sport.

“Regardless of any personal issues I may have encountered, they have never influenced my decision-making on the field. I have consistently valued the integrity of the game, officiating matches impartially and to the best of my ability,” his statement read.
