New Delhi, Aug 12 (NationPress) A Regulatory Commission, independent from the Football Association (FA), has handed down an eight-week suspension along with a mandatory face-to-face education program to David Coote for violating FA Rule E3.

It was claimed that the referee behaved improperly and/or used abusive and/or insulting language regarding Jurgen Klopp in a video recorded in July 2020 that surfaced on social media in November 2024.

Furthermore, it was alleged that his conduct amounted to an ‘Aggravated Breach’, as defined in FA Rule E3.2, due to references – either explicit or implied – to nationality.

FA Rule E3 pertains to improper behaviors that tarnish the sport's reputation, including derogatory language or conduct, and encompasses actions that undermine the credibility of match officials.

Previously, UEFA suspended Coote after a video emerged showing him using ‘white powder’ while officiating at Euro 2024 last summer. Following investigations, the European football authority barred the disgraced referee from officiating any UEFA matches until June 30, 2026.

Despite these controversies, Coote was exonerated by the FA concerning allegations that he had discussed issuing a yellow card before a Championship match between Leeds and West Brom in 2019. He faced inquiries over a yellow card given to Leeds player Ezgjan Alioski during their match against West Bromwich Albion in October 2019.

Coote has consistently denied any wrongdoing, asserting that he has always maintained the integrity of the sport. In his statement, he emphasized, “Regardless of any personal issues, my decision-making on the field has never been compromised. I have always prioritized the game’s integrity, officiating matches with impartiality and to the best of my abilities.”
