New Delhi, April 20 (NationPress) The Punjab Kings' diversified bowling lineup has proven to be a pivotal asset in their IPL 2026 journey, receiving accolades from former South African captain Faf du Plessis. He asserts that the team's true strength lies in its capability to utilize various wicket-taking strategies during distinct phases of the game.

After PBKS's impressive 54-run victory against the Lucknow Super Giants, du Plessis emphasized how the team's versatile bowling options keep them a step ahead, allowing them to adapt to match conditions while retaining an aggressive approach.

"When assembling a bowling unit, variety is essential. As a captain, you have a range of options at your disposal that you can activate at different moments, which contributes to the exceptional variety in their bowling attack," he shared with ESPNcricinfo.

He noted that PBKS’s bowling strategy revolves around genuine wicket-takers rather than merely focusing on containment, positioning them as a constant threat to opposing batsmen.

"You need to consider the caliber of players they have. This is not a team that lacks offensive capabilities. While they can adopt a defensive stance, the names in their bowling lineup—like Marco Jansen, (Xavier) Bartlett, and Arshdeep Singh—are all frontline wicket-takers. They excel with the new ball, demonstrating skills like swing bowling, height for bounce, and Arshdeep's proficiency with yorkers. Their status as one of the top bowling units is no coincidence," he remarked.

Du Plessis further pointed out that the ability of PBKS to oscillate between attacking and defensive tactics while still prioritizing wicket-taking intent is vital to their success.

"They can shift to a defensive mode, but as a batsman facing them, you feel like they have the potential to dismiss you at any moment," he added.

He also highlighted the depth of their bowling resources, mentioning additional impactful players who can step in as needed. "Individuals like (Vijaykumar) Vyshak can come in and make their mark. Yuzvendra Chahal is an aggressive spinner; while he can play defensively, his primary approach is taking wickets," he stated.

Former India batsman Ambati Rayudu echoed these views, praising PBKS for melding skill with tactical awareness. He suggested that their maturity distinguishes them from other teams in the league.

"They possess the ability to execute both offensive and defensive strategies effectively. Their comprehensive skill set, paired with an understanding of what to do in various scenarios, is a significant factor in evaluating the IPL and its bowling units.
