London, March 31 (NationPress) Niclas Fullkrug is set to make his return to the West Ham United matchday squad after successfully overcoming a hamstring injury that has kept him sidelined for the last two-and-a-half months.

The German striker sustained the injury during head coach Graham Potter’s inaugural match on January 10, which saw the team suffer a defeat against Aston Villa in the FA Cup third round.

At 32, Fullkrug has put in significant effort to regain his fitness and will be on the bench for the upcoming Premier League clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.

Unfortunately, another player also affected by a hamstring injury from the FA Cup match at Villa Park, winger Crysencio Summerville, will not be available as he continues his recovery at Rush Green training ground.

“Summerville will not be available, but Fullkrug has been training with the team and is likely to be included in the squad. We need to gradually increase his minutes as he hasn't played competitive football for a while due to a significant injury. However, he is training well and regaining his fitness, so he’ll be part of the squad,” Potter shared during his pre-match press conference.

Potter is eagerly anticipating the return of Premier League action as West Ham prepares to compete for the first time in 17 days against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday (IST).

With the March international break followed by the FA Cup sixth-round weekend, the Irons have not played a league match since their draw at Everton on March 15.

“I feel good and am genuinely excited to get back into it. The schedule is what it is; there’s nothing that can be done to change it. We hope the players who were away had a positive international experience, and for those who remained, we’ve worked hard during that time. We’re looking forward to the game,” Potter concluded.
