Lucknow, April 12 (NationPress) Captain Shubman Gill has made history by becoming the first player to surpass the 2000-run mark for the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League. He accomplished this milestone by scoring 60 runs against the Lucknow Super Giants during the first innings on Saturday.

Gill joined the newly established franchise in 2022 and has participated in 51 matches for the team. Following Hardik Pandya's exit in 2024, Gill took over as captain and is currently in his second season leading the squad. To date, he has accumulated 2007 runs for the team, boasting an average of 44.60 and a strike rate of 147.89.

The 25-year-old player scored 483 runs in his inaugural season with the team, followed by an impressive 2023 campaign where Gujarat reached the finals but fell short against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). During that season, he amassed 890 runs in 17 matches at an average of 59.33, with his highest score being 129 against the Mumbai Indians in the second qualifier. He achieved three centuries and four half-centuries in that season.

In his first season as captain, there were doubts regarding Gill's performance, as he ended with an average of 38.73 and a strike rate of 147.40, both notably lower than the previous year. However, he has made a remarkable comeback in the current season.

In the match against LSG, Shubman Gill scored 60 runs off just 38 deliveries before being dismissed due to an outstanding catch by Aiden Markram. Together with Sai Sudharsan's 53, the pair established an opening partnership of 120 runs, setting the stage for GT's 180. Gill's innings featured six boundaries and one six, with a strike rate of 157.89.

Including his time with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Gill has scored a total of 3424 runs in 109 matches at a strike rate of 136.47 and an average of 38.04.

The Gujarat Titans took to Instagram to celebrate and express gratitude to their captain for reaching the 2000-run milestone.
