Shubman Gill Makes History as Youngest to Hit 4,000 IPL Runs
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Lucknow, April 12 (NationPress) Captain of the Gujarat Titans, Shubman Gill, has made history by becoming the youngest player to surpass the 4,000-run milestone in the Indian Premier League (IPL). This remarkable achievement occurred during his innings against the Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Sunday, as he crossed the significant threshold with his 25th run.
The stylish right-handed batsman achieved this feat in just 118 innings, making him the second-fastest Indian to reach 4,000 IPL runs, trailing only KL Rahul, who did it in 105 innings. Among all players, only Chris Gayle (112 innings), David Warner (114), and Jos Buttler (116) have reached this landmark quicker than Gill.
Gill's consistent performance has been a defining feature of his IPL career, maintaining an average close to 40 and a strike rate of around 140. He embarked on his IPL journey with the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2018, where he played for four seasons and accumulated 1,417 runs in 58 matches.
His transition to the Gujarat Titans before the 2022 season marked a significant turning point, as Gill elevated his performance to unprecedented levels. Since joining, he has scored over 2,580 runs in 63 appearances, averaging over 46 and boasting a strike rate of nearly 150. Impressively, no player has outscored him in the IPL since the beginning of the 2022 season.
Now at the helm of the Titans, Gill has achieved 27 half-centuries and four centuries in the tournament, with a majority of those fifties (17) and all of his centuries coming while representing the 2022 champions.
Earlier this season, the 26-year-old also reached another milestone, becoming the first player to score 2,500 IPL runs for the Gujarat Titans. He accomplished this during their encounter with the Delhi Capitals, marking the milestone with a boundary off Axar Patel in the seventh over.
