New Delhi, April 19 (NationPress) Captain of Gujarat Titans (GT), Shubman Gill, has been penalized with a fine of INR 12 lakh due to his team's slow over-rate during their match in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday.

This incident marks GT’s first infraction regarding over-rate this season. According to Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which addresses minimum over-rate violations, Gill, who scored only seven runs in the match before being run-out, received the fine.

Previously, other captains who faced fines for similar over-rate infringements in IPL 2025 include Axar Patel from DC, Hardik Pandya of Mumbai Indians (MI), Riyan Parag and Sanju Samson of Rajasthan Royals (RR), and Rishabh Pant from Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

In the match itself, Jos Buttler delivered an impressive performance, scoring 97 not out off just 54 balls, assisting GT in successfully chasing down a target of 204 runs with four balls remaining against DC in the intense heat of Ahmedabad.

The wicketkeeper-batter formed crucial partnerships, including a 60-run stand with B. Sai Sudharsan and a remarkable 119 with Sherfane Rutherford, marking the first time GT managed to chase a total exceeding 200 in their IPL history.

This match also set a record, being the first instance where a team chased down a total over 200 against DC, who currently hold the second position in the points table with GT leading due to a better net run rate. GT's bowling attack was bolstered by Prasidh Krishna, who took 4 wickets for 41 runs, alongside Mohammed Siraj, Arshad Khan, Ishant Sharma, and R. Sai Kishore, who each contributed with a wicket.

As the IPL 2022 champions, GT now sits at the top of the 2025 season points table, accumulating 10 points from seven matches. They are set to face off against the defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), at Eden Gardens on Monday evening after traveling to Kolkata on Sunday.
