Guwahati Masters 2024: Anmol Kharb Stuns Defending Champion Chaiwan to Secure Semifinal Spot; Ashwini and Tanisha Join Her in the Last Four

Guwahati, Dec 6 (NationPress) India’s emerging women’s singles talent Anmol Kharb maintained her composure under intense pressure to eliminate defending champion Lalinrat Chaiwan of Thailand in the quarterfinals of the Guwahati Masters Super 100 badminton tournament held here on Friday.

Kharb rallied from a score of 11-16 and 16-20 in the second game, earning herself two match points but was unable to convert. She encountered a similar situation twice in the deciding game, but this time, she successfully capitalized on her second opportunity, winning with scores of 21-13, 22-24, 22-20 after an hour and 14 minutes, thus earning a place in the semifinals. She will now compete against Mansi Singh, who overcame Thailand’s Yataweemin Kateklieng with scores of 22-20, 21-18 in an all-Indian semifinal.

Other Indian players reaching the semifinals included third seed Sathish Kumar Karunakaran in men’s singles, and the mixed doubles pair of fifth seeds Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto. Sathish Kumar triumphed over Saran Jamsri of Thailand with scores of 21-19, 21-13, while Dhruv and Tanisha defeated K. Sathwik Reddy and Vaishnavi Khadkekar by 21-16, 21-14.

This edition of the tournament, the second of its kind, is organized collaboratively by the Badminton Association of India and the Assam Badminton Association to provide essential exposure for young Indian badminton players.

The top seeds and defending champions Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto were the sole Indian duo remaining in the women’s doubles category after securing victory against China’s fifth seeds Huang Ke Xin and Tang Rui Zhi with scores of 21-18, 21-13 in the quarterfinals.
