Guwahati Masters: Anmol Kharb, Sathish Kumar, Ashwini-Tanisha Advance to Finals as India Aims for Victory

Guwahati, Dec 7 (NationPress) Rising star in women’s singles, Anmol Kharb, along with men’s singles third seed Sathish Kumar Karunakaran and the women’s doubles defending champions Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto, achieved remarkable victories to secure their places in the finals of their respective categories. The hosts, India, are set to contend for three titles on the final day of the Guwahati Masters Super 100 badminton tournament.
On Saturday, the Indian athletes delivered stellar performances during the semifinals, creating an opportunity for the hosts to showcase their dominance on the final day, which is scheduled for Sunday.
In the all-Indian women’s singles semifinal, Anmol triumphed over Mansi Singh with scores of 21-19, 21-17 in a swift 40 minutes. Meanwhile, Sathish Kumar completed his match with a comeback, winning 13-21, 21-14, 21-16 against sixth seed Wang Zheng Xing of China.
In the women’s doubles semifinals, the top-seeded duo of Ashwini and Tanisha advanced effortlessly with a 21-14, 21-14 victory against Keng Shu Liang and Wang Ting Ge from China. They are set to challenge another Chinese pair, Li Hua Zhou and Wang Zi Meng, aiming to be the only champions from the inaugural edition to defend their title successfully.
This marks the second edition of the tournament, co-organized by the Badminton Association of India and the Assam Badminton Association, aimed at providing international exposure and essential high-level competition for young Indian badminton players at their homeland.
Anmol and Sathish Kumar emphasized the significance of such competitions by leveraging the local support to reach the finals. The 17-year-old Anmol, who has secured two international titles in the current year, is now set to battle against Chinese qualifier Cai Yan Yan as she seeks her first Super 100 title.
In the men’s singles final, Sathish Kumar aims to add another Super 100 title to his accolades. The 23-year-old, who previously won the Odisha Masters Super 100 last year, will go up against another Chinese qualifier, Zhu Xuan Chen.
The mixed doubles final will feature a showdown between China’s Zhang Han Yu and Bao Li Jing against Rory Easton and Lizzie Tolman from England. In the men’s doubles final, China’s Huang Di and Liu Yang will face off against Chia Weijie and Lwi Sheng Hao from Malaysia.
