Guwahati Masters: M Tharun and Unseeded Mixed Doubles Team of Reddy & Vaishnavi Stun Top Seeds to Reach Quarterfinals

Guwahati, Dec 5 (NationPress) National Games champion M Tharun and the unseeded mixed doubles pair of K Sathwik Reddy and Vaishnavi Khadkekar eliminated the top seeds in their respective categories to secure their spots in the quarterfinals of the Guwahati Masters Super 100 badminton tournament held here on Thursday.
Tharun overcame two game points in the initial game and seized control after several lengthy rallies in the deciding game to defeat top seed Priyanshu Rajawat with scores of 24-22, 15-21, 21-13 in a match that lasted one hour and 10 minutes in the men's singles pre-quarterfinals.
On the other court, Reddy and Khadkekar rallied from a game behind to triumph over Satish Kumar Karunakaran and Aadya Variyath with scores of 18-21, 21-13, 21-17. They are now set to compete against fifth seed Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto for a place in the semifinals.
In the men's singles, fifth seed Mads Christophersen from Denmark was also eliminated as India’s Ravi recovered from the disappointment of losing a closely contested first game to win the match 21-23, 21-17, 21-14, setting up a quarterfinal showdown against Chinese qualifier Zhu Xuan Chen.
In the women's singles, Tasnim Mir had three match points against defending champion Lalinrat Chaiwan but failed to convert any, ultimately losing with scores of 21-11, 18-21, 26-24 to the Thai player.
In women's doubles, defending champions Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto advanced to the last eight with a solid 21-17, 21-17 victory over Amrutha Pramuthesh and Sonali Singh.
