Guwahati, Dec 7 (NationPress) – Emerging talent Sanskar Saraswat stunned seasoned player Mithun Manjunath to secure the men’s singles championship at the Guwahati Masters Super 100 event held at the National Centre of Excellence on Sunday.
Saraswat triumphed over Manjunath with scores of 21-11, 17-21, 21-13 in an all-Indian final.
Currently holding a world ranking of 384, Saraswat showcased his skills throughout the tournament, defeating Hong Kong's Jason Gunawan, a player among the top 50 during the qualifiers.
He began the final with a remarkable performance, taking the first game comprehensively. Although he held a strong lead of 8-2 in the second game, Manjunath made a comeback, forcing a deciding game.
In the final game, Saraswat regained his momentum, winning the initial six points of the match and sealing his victory amidst the cheers of his home crowd.
On another note, Tanvi Sharma, the world junior champion, alongside the men’s doubles pair of Sai Pratheek K and Pruthvi Roy, fell short in their respective finals.
Sharma finished as runner-up in the women’s singles after narrowly losing two closely contested games against Tung Ciou-Tong from Chinese Taipei.
