Bhubaneshwar, March 21 (NationPress) The 24th National Para Athletics Championships 2026, which took place from March 17 to 21 in Bhubaneshwar, Odisha, wrapped up with great excitement as Haryana clinched the title of overall champions after showcasing an extraordinary performance in both track and field events.

Haryana led the medal standings with a remarkable total of 95 medals, comprising 39 gold, 31 silver, and 25 bronze. Following them, Tamil Nadu took second place with 51 medals (14 gold, 20 silver, 17 bronze), while Gujarat secured the third spot with 30 medals (14 gold, 11 silver, 5 bronze). The host state, Odisha, finished ninth with a total of 17 medals, which included 5 gold.

The championships saw participation from 1,460 para-athletes representing 28 states, along with teams from the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB), competing in 145 medal events.

In the Men’s Discus Throw F11, Haryana’s Monu Ghangas won gold with a throw of 35.05m, surpassing Praveen Sharma from Rajasthan (33.69m) and Neelam Sanjay Reddy from Andhra Pradesh (31.34m).

In the Men’s Discus Throw F51–F52–F53 category, Ram Ratan Singh of Uttar Pradesh claimed gold with a throw of 11.98m, with Haryana’s Pranav Soorma (10.97m) and Dharambir (9.61m) taking silver and bronze respectively.

In the Women’s Long Jump T11–T12, Damor Tejalben Amaraji from Gujarat excelled to win gold with a jump of 4.95m, while Odisha’s Janaki Oram and Shivani Tyagi from Delhi followed with silver and bronze.

In the Women’s Javelin Throw F12–F13, Kipa Mero of Arunachal Pradesh took gold with a throw of 23.76m, finishing ahead of Gangavya from Karnataka and Haryana’s Astha Tokas.

Haryana continued to shine in field events, with Haney winning gold in the Men’s Discus Throw F37 with a distance of 49.65m, while Manav Prajapati from Gujarat and Haryana’s Bhavishay secured silver and bronze.

In track events, Bhatt Rakeshbhai from Gujarat claimed gold in the Men’s 200m T37 with a time of 24.25 seconds, while Abhishek Babasa Jadhav from Maharashtra topped the Men’s 200m T35.

Long-distance events highlighted remarkable performances, with Saurabh Sharma of Himachal Pradesh winning the Men’s 5000m T13 in 16:00.88, and Haryana’s Ankur Dhama taking gold in the Men’s 5000m T11 with a time of 17:47.54.

Among other remarkable achievements, Odisha’s Suchitra Parida won gold in the Women’s Javelin Throw F56, while Uttar Pradesh shone in the Men’s Discus Throw F64, with Kartik Chahal and Sagar Thayat winning gold and silver respectively.
