Heung Min Son Accepts Accountability for 'Heartbreaking' Defeat to Chelsea

New Delhi, Dec 10 (NationPress) The captain of Tottenham Hotspur, Heung Min Son, has expressed his sincere apologies to the club's loyal supporters after he squandered a prime opportunity during the match, which ultimately led to a disappointing 3-4 defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.
After Cole Palmer successfully converted a penalty, Chelsea managed to level the score at 2-2. In the 68th minute, Son found himself in a promising position and charged towards a one-on-one situation with goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, only to miss the target by shooting wide. “I want to sincerely apologize for letting the fans down. This is an incredibly challenging time for us. While some might argue that moments like this lead to growth, at this instant, I feel accountable for our loss,” Son stated.
“This is truly painful for me right now. As captain, I must accept the greatest responsibility. In truth, my failure to convert that chance in the game is simply unacceptable,” Son remarked to Telecom Asia Sport.
The forward from South Korea subsequently netted a consolation goal during stoppage time, but it was insufficient for the team to secure even a point, given their early two-goal lead in the match.
“I consider myself one of the most seasoned players in our squad, which is why I must step up during crucial moments like these and make an impact. I believe the majority of my teammates performed well, but we need to improve. We are facing numerous injuries, and I hope we can welcome back some players soon, especially with the busy schedule ahead. However, beyond the injury issues, we must be more effective and take greater accountability for our performances,” the Spurs captain concluded.
Currently, the North London club is positioned in 11th place, having dropped points in their last three matches. Following a historic 4-0 triumph over defending champions Manchester City, the Spurs have drawn (1-1) against Fulham and then lost to Bournemouth (0-1) and Chelsea.
Frustration is growing among fans, and head coach Ange Postecoglu was seen engaging in an animated discussion with supporters post the defeat against the Cherries.
