New Delhi, March 31 (NationPress) The 4th edition of the India Sporting Goods Fair (ISGF) 2026 commenced on Tuesday, emphasizing the goal of making India a global leader in the manufacturing, export, and trade of sports goods.
Speaking to exhibitors, international buyers, and industry stakeholders, Secretary (Sports) of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Hari Ranjan Rao, remarked, “This marks a pivotal moment in the advancement of India’s sports goods sector.”
Rao elaborated on a bold national vision, aiming to boost sports goods exports from around ₹3,000 crore to an impressive ₹80,000 crore.
Highlighting the extent of transformation needed, he asserted, “To transition from ₹3,000 crore to ₹80,000 crore, manufacturers must scale their operations nearly 25 times. Big dreams are essential for substantial achievements.”
Manufacturers are encouraged to pursue aggressive scalability, broaden their global reach, and maintain a forward-thinking stance driven by innovation and investment, with particular attention to the involvement of youth and next-generation entrepreneurs in spearheading this growth. “Our ambition is to host the world’s largest sports goods exhibition right here in India, attracting exhibitors from all corners of the globe,” Rao stated.
Reinforcing the Government’s dedication, Rao pointed out that ₹500 crore has been allocated in the Union Budget specifically for this sector. He underscored that while the government will provide comprehensive policy support, the industry's execution is crucial.
“We also encourage the entry of more manufacturers into the sports goods sector. The industry should actively pursue joint ventures and international collaborations, and the Ministry will gladly facilitate such partnerships,” the Secretary (Sports) expressed.
In his address, Joint Secretary (Sports), Vineel Krishna, emphasized the Government’s expansive vision, stating, “We are very ambitious about growing the sports goods manufacturing sector, aiming not just to satisfy domestic needs but also to elevate India’s export capacity.”
“We are optimistic that within the next few months, we will introduce the sports goods manufacturing scheme pending necessary approvals,” he added.
