New Delhi, May 21 (NationPress) Rajasthan Royals (RR) batting coach Vikram Rathour expressed his strong belief that Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel are set to shine during the forthcoming five-match Test tour of England.
Rathour, who made his Test debut on the English tour in 1996, acknowledged the challenges the team will face without the recently retired duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
Following RR's six-wicket triumph over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, Jaiswal and Jurel will have some downtime before heading to England with the India ‘A’ squad, scheduled to compete in two four-day matches against the England Lions.
The initial match is set to commence on May 30 in Canterbury, followed by an intra-squad game against the main Test team starting June 13 in Beckenham, leading up to the Test series kicking off on June 20 at Headingley. This will mark the first international cricket experience for both Jaiswal and Jurel in England.
“Jaiswal has already delivered some remarkable performances at the international level, and Dhruv Jurel shows exceptional temperament and technique as a batsman. It’s going to be a challenging tour,” Rathour remarked.
“The absence of senior players will add pressure on the young team, potentially including a new captain. However, this is a chance to demonstrate their skills and abilities. I am confident they will perform well,” he added during the post-match press briefing.
With India navigating a significant transition in their Test lineup and the onset of a new World Test Championship cycle, discussions have emerged regarding the implications of the retirements of Rohit, Virat, and Ravichandran Ashwin. Rathour, however, provided a different outlook on the matter.
“Retirement is a deeply personal matter. All three were exceptional cricketers and I would have preferred for them to continue. Nonetheless, we must respect their decisions,” he concluded.
