Rinku had left Chennai at 5:00 am to reach New Delhi after being by his father's side during his critical condition. He had rejoined the T20 World Cup squad prior to India's match against Zimbabwe at MA Chidambaram Stadium on Thursday but did not play, as Sanju Samson was chosen to open the batting with Abhishek Sharma.
Previously, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia informed IANS that Rinku would not accompany the team to Kolkata for their upcoming Super Eights match against the West Indies on Sunday.
Prem Manohar Gupta, chief of the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA), also expressed his condolences. He stated, “I am truly saddened to hear about Rinku Singh’s father’s passing. Joy was just beginning to re-enter their lives, especially with Rinku's wedding recently arranged. This loss feels even more profound during such a time. The entire UPCA stands firmly with Rinku Singh and his family.”
BCCI president Mithun Manhas extended his heartfelt sympathies via post on X, saying, "I am deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Rinku Singh’s father. My sincere condolences go to Rinku and his family during this tough time. May Lord Shiva grant him the strength to endure."
