Indore, Sep 1 (NationPress) Mahanaryaman Scindia, the offspring of Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, is poised to be elected unanimously as the president of the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA).
Although the election and announcement of results will occur during the association's Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Tuesday, outgoing president Abhilash Khandekar confirmed to IANS on Monday that the new office bearers will be elected without opposition.
At just 29 years old, Mahanaryaman, who also holds the position of vice-president at the Gwalior Division Cricket Association (GDCA) and hails from the historic Gwalior royal family, will become the youngest president in the history of MPCA since its inception in 1957.
He will be the third generation of the Scindia family to lead the MPCA, following in the footsteps of his grandfather, the late Madhavrao Scindia, and his father Jyotiraditya, both of whom have served as presidents.
In 2022, he was granted lifetime membership of the MPCA and currently serves as the president of the Madhya Pradesh T20 League (MPL), which saw its inaugural edition held in Gwalior in 2024.
Alongside him, Vineet Sethia will assume the role of vice-president, while Sudhir Asnani, a former international umpire, is expected to become the new secretary. Arundhati Kirkire, a former India women's cricketer, will take on the position of joint secretary, with Sanjeev Dua stepping in as Treasurer.
IANS reports that two nominations for the office bearers' positions were withdrawn on Sunday, resulting in the valid nominations equalling the available posts for the elections. This means that the announcement of new office bearers by the electoral officer on Tuesday will be a mere formality, according to an MPCA source.
The first major task for the Scindia-led MPCA will be to finalize all necessary arrangements for Holkar Stadium to host matches in the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup. The venue is scheduled to host five league stage matches, including three featuring the defending champions Australia, and a match between tournament hosts India and England on October 19.
