New Delhi, Aug 12 (NationPress) The Manchester United fan group, The 1958, has decided to delay their planned protest against minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe ahead of the first Premier League match.
The protest march was scheduled for August 17 at Old Trafford, prior to the game against Arsenal, but the group has opted to postpone it due to differing opinions within the fanbase.
A survey conducted revealed that about 63% of nearly 26,000 participants felt that Ratcliffe and his Ineos company should be held accountable through protest. However, 68% of respondents also indicated they believe more time should be granted.
"With a fanbase as diverse and passionate as ours, finding the right balance isn't always easy. We've had to weigh momentum, timing, and the broader implications of protest actions while considering how current and future decisions may affect us as fans.
"Given the current sentiment and these recent survey findings, it is evident there is no common consensus within the fanbase regarding the club's direction under Ratcliffe. This division is significant, and we believe it would be reckless to create a scenario that could lead to any 'red on red' conflict inside or outside the stadium," the group stated.
The 1958 has previously protested against the majority stakeholders, the Glazers. Ratcliffe took over daily operations after acquiring a 28.94% stake in the club. Last season, United finished in 16th place, which prompted widespread criticism from fans. Nevertheless, significant signings such as Bryan Mbuemo, Benjamin Sesko, and Matheus Cunha demonstrate the club's intention to improve.
"Jim Ratcliffe chose to ally with the Glazers and, in our view, is aiding in their continued control," the group remarked last week.
