Manchester, March 11 (NationPress) Manchester United has revealed its ambitious plans for a new 100,000-seater stadium, designed to be the focal point of the revitalization of the Old Trafford area, which will establish it as the largest stadium in England.
Since 1910, United's current home, Old Trafford, has been a staple in football, holding 74,310 spectators, making it the third-largest venue in the UK, following Wembley Stadium and Twickenham.
Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe expressed his desire to create the world's premier football stadium, with hopes of completion within five years.
“Today signifies the beginning of a thrilling journey to realize what will become the world’s finest football stadium, situated at the heart of a revitalized Old Trafford,” Ratcliffe stated in an official announcement.
“Our existing stadium has served us excellently for over 115 years, yet it has lagged behind the top venues in global sports. By constructing adjacent to the current site, we will maintain the spirit of Old Trafford while establishing a truly modern stadium that enhances the fan experience, just steps away from our historic ground.
“Equally significant is the potential for a new stadium to act as a catalyst for the social and economic revitalization of the Old Trafford neighborhood, generating job opportunities and investment not only during the construction phase but also sustainably once the stadium district is finalized,” he added.
United is collaborating with the Trafford Council and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority to formulate plans for the renewal of the Old Trafford area, with the establishment of a world-class stadium for Manchester United at the project's core.
“The Government has recognized infrastructure investment as a key priority, especially in northern England, and we are honored to contribute to that mission with this project of both national and local importance,” he concluded.
