Ahmedabad, April 19 (NationPress) “If we had managed to score an additional 10-15 runs or allowed fewer runs, we could have put the pressure on our opponents,” stated pacer Mukesh Kumar following Delhi Capitals' drop to second place in the points standings after a seven-wicket defeat to Gujarat Titans during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Saturday.
After being asked to bat first, Delhi Capitals set a total of 203/8 in 20 overs, driven by contributions from Axar Patel (39 off 32), Ashutosh Sharma (37 off 19), and Karun Nair (31 off 18). The home team successfully chased the target in 19.2 overs, led by Jos Buttler's unbeaten 97 off 54 balls and Sherfane Rutherford's 41 off 34.
Not avoiding the defeat, the Delhi Capitals’ bowler Mukesh Kumar reflected during the post-match press conference, “The match unfolded well, but if we had fielded better, allowed fewer runs, or scored 10-15 more, the match could have been much more balanced, putting the pressure on the other side.”
Tristian Stubbs, Karun Nair (31), and KL Rahul provided a robust start for Delhi Capitals, but Krishna’s spell curtailed the runs for the visiting side, and despite a potentially larger score, DC settled for 203/8.
After completing the first round of matches, Delhi Capitals have faced two losses and secured five wins out of seven games this season, accumulating 10 points, while Gujarat Titans possess an identical record but lead the points table due to a marginally superior NRR.
Discussing the lessons learned from the match, Kumar noted, “Every match offers valuable lessons. In this game, we learned the areas needing improvement.”
“The goal was to win, but that did not materialize. Nevertheless, we will progress and look ahead. There were a few errors, which we will rectify as we move forward,” he concluded.
Delhi Capitals are set to face Lucknow Super Giants in their eighth match of IPL 2025 at Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Tuesday (April 22).
