IPL 2025: Dominant Delhi Capitals Set 203 Against GT Despite Krishna's Four Wickets

Ahmedabad, April 19 (NationPress) In a remarkable display of batting, spearheaded by skipper Axar Patel (39) and Ashutosh Sharma (37), the Delhi Capitals managed to score 203/8 in their 20 overs during Match 35 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Saturday. The Gujarat Titans saw Prasidh Krishna excel, securing the Purple Cap with impressive figures of 4-41, raising his total wickets this season to 14.

Abhishek Porel (18) made a strong start, targeting Mohammed Siraj, who has been exceptional for GT this season. After Siraj opened with two wides, Porel struck two fours and a six over deep square to kick off the innings. Unfortunately, his time was cut short as he fell to Arshad Khan in the following over.

A low full toss caught by Siraj at mid-on marked the home team’s first breakthrough. Rahul continued to punish the bowlers, hitting a six and a four off Siraj in the third over, which also saw him become the fastest Indian to reach 200 sixes. Karun Nair joined in with a six on the last ball of that over.

The Capitals raced past the 50-run mark before Rahul's dismissal, concluding his crucial innings. Prasidh Krishna took Rahul out with a precise yorker, sending him back to the pavilion. Krishna followed this up by dismissing Nair, who was looking to build on his previous boundary but hit a back-of-the-length delivery straight to Arshad at deep third.

Stubbs and Axar maintained a run rate above ten, taking on Rashid Khan. The 14th over brought fireworks when Stubbs hit a massive six straight down the ground. The South African batter then attempted a high shot, but Rashid couldn't hold onto the catch.

Axar Patel joined the fun with his own six, and together they forged a fifty-run partnership before Stubbs fell cheaply. Siraj received his only wicket of the day when Stubbs attempted a reverse scoop, handing Krishna a straightforward catch at short third man.

Even though Arshad claimed the critical wicket of Porel, he struggled, ending with 46 runs conceded, including a four and a six from Ashutosh's bat on his last two deliveries.

Siraj's hopes for a second wicket were dashed when Rashid dropped Axar in the next over. Nevertheless, Prasidh managed to take his third wicket by finding the edge of the Delhi captain, denying him a season's first fifty. He turned the game around by dismissing Vipraj Nigam off the subsequent delivery.

In a bid to finish strong and surpass the 200-run mark, Delhi introduced Donovan Ferreira as an Impact Player. Ashutosh displayed boldness by hitting two sixes off the last two balls of the over.

Ferreira's impact was minimal, as Ishant Sharma secured his only wicket in the penultimate over. There was a significant appeal for Ashutosh's wicket in that over after the ball deflected off his shoulder to the wicketkeeper, but GT had no reviews left, leaving Ishant frustrated. An exchange of words ensued as the batter pointed to his shoulder, defending himself.

Sai Kishore bowled the final over, having not bowled earlier, and did well to restrict the Delhi Capitals to just six runs while also claiming Ashutosh's wicket.
