New Delhi, April 14 (NationPress) Delhi Capitals batter Karun Nair, who captivated fans with his explosive innings of 89 runs, expressed his disappointment following his team's 12-run loss against Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday. This marked Delhi's first defeat of the IPL 2025 season after achieving four consecutive victories.
After being invited to bat first, Mumbai Indians set a formidable target, scoring 205 runs for 5 wickets in 20 overs. In response, Nair's impressive knock of 89 off 40 balls ultimately fell short as Delhi Capitals struggled to chase the target.
"It's a valuable lesson for all of us. I feel disappointed that we couldn't secure the win. We lost wickets at crucial moments, making it challenging for us as we needed a stable batsman to remain until the end. Nevertheless, we can learn from this experience and strive for improvement. We will prepare thoroughly for our next match," said Nair, who made his season debut in this match, during the post-match press conference.
Discussing his mindset during the game, the right-handed batter remarked, "Losing a key player like Faf du Plessis was tough. We were aware that some of us on the bench had to be ready to step in at any moment. I mentally prepared myself and eagerly anticipated my opportunity. I'm truly pleased to have capitalized on that chance."
"I felt well-prepared to participate in the IPL when given a chance. My focus was on maintaining my preparation throughout the season and staying ready. I was committed to ensuring I was prepared for the game," he added.
When asked about facing Jasprit Bumrah, Nair stated, "It was crucial to choose the right deliveries and target the areas I aimed to score in. He is currently one of the top bowlers in world cricket, so I had to be cautious about his bowling. However, I backed myself and trusted in the areas where I wanted to score."
Currently, Delhi Capitals are positioned second on the points table, accumulating eight points from five matches. They are set to face Rajasthan Royals next at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday.
