New Delhi, March 10 (NationPress) BCCI Joint Secretary Rohan Gauns Dessai and Punjab Cricket Association Secretary Dilsher Khanna have been officially named as the latest members of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) Committee.

In a release issued on Monday, the BCCI confirmed that Dessai, who previously held the position of Secretary at the Goa Cricket Association (GCA), has joined the eight-member WPL Committee after being unanimously chosen as the new BCCI Joint Secretary earlier this month in Mumbai.

The vacancy for the BCCI's joint secretary role arose when Devajit Saikia, from Assam, was elevated to the position of BCCI secretary in Mumbai earlier this year, succeeding Jay Shah, who was appointed as the ICC Chair. Dessai has also been involved as the manager for the Indian men’s team during last year’s four-match T20I series in South Africa, which they won with a score of 3-1.

In contrast, Khanna’s appointment follows the election of Prabhtej Singh Bhatia from Chhattisgarh as the BCCI Treasurer, who was a member of the WPL Committee before stepping into his current position. Khanna has previously served as the team manager for the Rohit Sharma-led Indian squad that clinched the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies.

Remaining members of the committee include BCCI President Roger Binny, WPL Committee Chairperson and convenor Saikia, IPL Chairperson Arun Singh Dhumal, BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla, and Madhumati Lele, who continue their duties.

The current WPL season is set to commence its Mumbai segment on Monday evening, featuring the 2023 champions Mumbai Indians facing off against Gujarat Giants at the Brabourne Stadium. Both Mumbai and Gujarat, along with the Delhi Capitals, have already secured their spots in the playoffs. Following the conclusion of the league stage on March 11, the Eliminator and Final are scheduled for March 13 and 15, respectively.
