Newcastle upon Tyne, July 12 (NationPress) Newcastle United has finalized the acquisition of winger Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest on a long-term arrangement.
Elanga arrives at the Magpies after an outstanding performance in Forest's commendable 2024/25 Premier League season, where he netted six goals and provided 11 assists, contributing to the team's European qualification.
The 23-year-old has been a key player for the Swedish national team alongside Alexander Isak. He made his way to the City Ground in the summer of 2023 and has now surpassed 100 Premier League appearances.
Before his transfer to the Midlands, Anthony developed through the youth ranks at Manchester United, making his competitive debut and scoring his first Premier League goal in May 2021.
He has also solidified his place in the Sweden squad, with four goals in 22 senior appearances, having progressed through the international youth teams. His latest appearance for his country was in their 2-0 victory over Hungary last month, during which he played the entire match.
"I’m thrilled, genuinely happy, but most importantly, I’m prepared. I’m ready to don this black and white jersey, fight for this team, and give everything for the passionate fanbase that lives and breathes football," Anthony expressed in a statement.
"I had an incredible two years at Nottingham Forest; they truly helped shape me into the player I am today, but I’m really excited to be here now. The club secured a trophy last season and is building something extraordinary, something special, that I want to be a part of. I desire to embrace the culture and DNA of this club. I am genuinely happy to be here and can’t wait to begin my journey here."
Newcastle United head coach, Eddie Howe, commented, "I’m pleased to welcome Anthony to Newcastle United. He has been a primary target for us, and I’m thrilled to have secured him at this early stage of pre-season.
"He possesses exciting talent with attributes that present a unique attacking threat. His pace, energy, and capacity to create and score goals will enhance our team and align with our playing style. Anthony is eager to further develop with us and to attain success here, and we are all looking forward to collaborating with him."
