Pereira Urges Cunha to Reflect on His Actions After Two-Match Suspension

Wolverhampton, Jan 3 (NationPress) Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Matheus Cunha has been given a two-match suspension by the Football Association (FA). The new head coach of Wolves, Vitor Pereira, expresses his hope that Cunha will learn from his past errors. Cunha faced charges of ‘misconduct’ due to his ‘improper behavior’ after their 1-2 loss to Ipswich Town at Molineux Stadium on December 14.

"We must be prepared to compete with or without Cunha. We function as a team. I believe we have players with a variety of abilities and talents, and we will be ready. He understands that his reaction was inappropriate, but I view a player not just as an athlete but as an individual. Even I make mistakes sometimes. He acknowledges his error. Now, it’s about avoiding repetition, maintaining emotional stability, and progressing forward," Pereira stated.

The incident took place after the final whistle when Jack Taylor netted a last-minute winner for the visitors. Cunha elbowed an Ipswich staff member and removed their glasses from their face. The Brazilian forward has also been fined £80,000 for his actions. "Matheus Cunha has been suspended for two matches and fined £80,000 following the Premier League match between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Ipswich Town on Saturday, December 14, 2024," said the FA in a statement.

This suspension means the Brazilian will miss Vitor Pereira's squad for the Premier League encounter against Nottingham Forest and the FA Cup third-round match away at Bristol City. He will be eligible to return for his team’s league game against Newcastle United on January 15.

Cunha has been a pivotal player for Wolves this season, being their top scorer with 10 goals and providing four assists, which is the joint-second highest.
